International recording artist and 2014 Grammy Music Educator Award Nominee, Ietef "Dj Cavem" Vita is an O.G. (Organic Gardener), educator, emcee, Deejay, b-boy, urban calligraphy guru, mid-wife, vegan chef, and producer. Ietef “Dj Cavem” Vita (Communicating Awareness Victoriously Educating the Masses) was born on the East Side of Denver, CO, in the Historic Five Points community, a booming jazz mecca in 1930-1960. In the 1980's and 90's, this area became the site of violent crimes with a strong gang presence. Ietef lived his most formative years during the latter and made the decision to have a positive future sparked by a visit to Africa. Upon his return to America, he began studying the art of break dancing under the L.O.F (lords of Finesse) crew and the R.F.R (Raw Foods Rokcaz). He has produced 6 albums, with his 6th album entitled, The Produce Section, an award winning, hip hop curriculum recently featured in Oprah Magazine and Ted Talk. The Produce section is an Eco HipHop album and curriculum that bridges the gap of inner-generational dialogue around alternative medicines and food security. In order to spark the conversation with the future (the youth) an interest has to be created, and it has to be relevant. The curriculum was designed to teach young people the importance of a localized food system, what it means to live in a food desert and how to sustain themselves in one. Since its release in 2012, it has been taught at various schools and has reached and impacted over 8,000 youths aged 7 to 24. His next album entitled, Eco-Twerk is expected to drop spring 2015, which will focus on the subjects of environmental issues such as mineral extraction and holistic entrepreneurialism.
