Varlet blends intricate psychedelic rock with experimental folk, indie, and jazz. Varlet's EP, The Drifter (self-released, 2011), secured the band's place in Denver music as one of the city's most-watched up-and-comers.
Varlet's debut LP, American Hymns, is due out later this year and was recorded by James Barone (Tennis) at Hideaway Studios (My Morning Jacket, The Swayback).
Varlet's music has appeared in Born/Born Crown Shoes ad campaigns and been featured in Denver Center for the Performing Arts affiliate theatre productions alongside music by Tom Hagedorn (DeVotchKa) and Julie Stratton (Mile Markers).
"VAR-LET" -- A Shakespearian word meaning a rogue: a deceitful and unreliable scoundrel.
"Denver-based five-piece band Varlet has crafted one of the most stunning records of 2011. The band's distinct sound is a hauntingly beautiful blend: It's folky, psychedelic and jazzy." —The Huffington Post
"The Drifter has a timelessness like some forgotten gem from the era when Gram Parsons and Townes Van Zandt were alive... Lilly Scott's voice has an ineffable classic quality, and the masterful musicianship on these songs helps it shine brightly." —Westword
