For five years, Maraca Five-0 threw gasoline on Denver’s desire for ear-blistering, all-instrumental, all-original surf-guitar rock. Started by guitarist Steve Gray and drummer Mike Behrenhausen, the band made initial rumblings in 1996, made a full start in 1999, released its only commercial CD on October 31, 2000, achieved worldwide airplay on John Peel’s BBC Radio One broadcast in 2001,and almost died in June 2002 because of a serious injury suffered by Matt Stemwedel.
