Ideal Fathers

Ideal Fathers, founded in Denver in 2006 by some Arvada locals as a project to revive Denver’s comatose punk scene, has come a long way in four years. Remaining true to their desire for exciting and danceable post punk, their sound has evolved into a melange of noisy and hilarious stream-of-conscious angst with a hardcore back. Frontman Jesse Hunsaker, while screaming lyrics from a world in brutally violent and comically cynical flux, is bolstered by guitarist Adam Rojo as he renders walls of sound funneled through scads of effects and the band’s two Mikes – Perfetti on drums and King on fast and frenetic bass lay out a solid, punk rock foundation. Imagine Steve Albini with a Black Francis scream on a bender with East Bay Ray, caterwauling over catchy, danceable beats about cheap science fiction and gore flicks. Bring the kids, but prepare to do some ‘splaining . . .
