Eolian

I was named after Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Growing up, I was
influenced by his music, but also by Ian MacKaye of Fugazi.
Their influence seeped into this music as I was writing it and also
later, as drummer Sean Merrell (of Ian Cooke Band and A Shoreline
Dream) and I were arranging the continuous 35-minute album, titled
“Egg.” It’s broken into 8 tracks but it’s really one long piece of
music including many, many smaller songs.

Bob Ferbrache and I recorded and mixed the album, once again in the
haunted depths of Studio Absenta. We’d worked together with Uphollow
and Ian Cooke and he worked us in between Wovenhand and Munly albums
and Slim Cessna tours. As always, it was great working with Bob.
Adam Edwards (also of A Shoreline Dream) joined up and added his bass
chops and later my friends Julie Davis (of Bela Karoli and Nathaniel
Rateliff’s band) and Chris Fogal (of The Gamits and Tauntaun) helped
me out by adding additional harmony vocals throughout the album.
The band is Eolian and the first album will be out fall 2010 on clear
vinyl in an origami nest designed by Ian Cooke and Vincent Comparetto.
We know it’s a weird thing to be releasing a 35-minute song on vinyl
in the age of singles and jingles, so we’ve put up the whole album
online for free listening so that it can be heard in its entirety:
